        Introduction

WordSmart is the world's most advanced vocabulary development program. It is based on exhaustive research in human learning potential conducted by the Johnson O'Connor Foundation, Inc. A pioneer since 1927 in the field of linguistics, Johnson O'Connor was one of the first researchers to employ scientific investigative techniques toward the development of an effective vocabulary improvement program. The results of these studies were used as the basis for the multi-sensory WordSmart program.

The Five Learning Modes

WordSmart introduces new words through five Learning Modes. The most important, content-rich exercise is Multiple Choice with Audio Discussion. Flashcards, Column Matching, Spelling Bee, and Word Shark are designed to reinforce the lessons in Multiple Choice with Audio Discussion. Audio Discussion accelerates learning and increases retention by presenting the antonyms, synonyms, and derivations of each Core Word in a multi-sensory, interactive setting. Audio Discussion also teaches new concepts by explaining the subtleties of close synonyms. The remaining four Learning Modes are designed to reinforce learning regardless of cognitive style. You should complete all exercises until you find the combination that best suits your learning style.

Volumes

WordSmart consists of 10 volumes: A through J. Volume A contains the most common words and Volume J contains words unknown to 90% of adults. Each volume is sold separately and contains between 9 and 13 groups of twenty Core Words.

Groups

The exercises within WordSmart are organized around the groups of words in each volume. For most efficient learning, we recommend studying a series of five or more groups at a time. Rotate through the series and drop the lowest groups after scoring 95% or higher.
